Greg Quinn OBE left the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in June 2024 after 29 years of service. Over those 29 years he served in: Estonia; Ghana; Belarus; Iraq; Washington; Kazakhstan and The Bahamas. From 2015-2020 he was High Commissioner to Guyana and Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname and in 2022 and 2023 he was Consul General Toronto, then Consul General Calgary and finally Political Counsellor Ottawa. His last overseas posting was in early 2024 as the Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda.
In London Greg has been the Baltic States Desk Officer, Head of the UN Political Team, Deputy Head of Caribbean and SIDS Department and Head of the Caribbean Team, and Shape of the Event Lead for the (subsequently postponed) 2024 UK-Africa Summit.
Greg graduated with a degree in International Politics and International History from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and has a Masters in History from the Open University. Queen’s University Belfast awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Law in 2019 for distinction in public services. Greg was awarded an OBE for services to British foreign policy in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honours.
In addition to working with Government Greg has significant experience working closely with a variety of private companies including across the energy, technology, security, infrastructure, defence and service industries. He is a true ‘people person’ with excellent intra-personal skills (demonstrated in various staff surveys and comments from other stakeholders) and significant experience in conflict resolution. In particular he turned around one failing post in less than 3 months making the staff there an integrated, happy and effective team which delivered trade, economic, cultural and political results for the UK.
