Much of Greg’s Foreign Office career has focussed on providing UK Government support to British companies seeking to expand their markets across the world. He has worked with a variety of private companies including across the energy, technology, security, infrastructure, defence and service industries helping them to deliver billions of pounds worth of business wins.
With 29 years in the British Diplomatic Service Greg is skilled at making, maintaining and using contacts within Government. He understands how Government works and who to reach out to to make things happen. He can provide advice on who are the key decision makers, how to pitch to them, and how to build relationships.
Greg has spent most of his Diplomatic career analysing the political situations and trends in a wide variety of countries across the world. He has an instinct for the key issues and trigger points and how these might impact on an organisation's approach to a particular Government. He can provide bespoke reports on any political issue in as much detail as needed.
As a senior leader and Senior Responsible Officer across a variety of countries Greg has been at the forefront of risk analysis, assessment and mitigation. He is able to highlight the key likely risks, assess the impact of these, and provide mitigation advice.
Greg designed and led a major Security Sector Reform project in one of the countries he was posted to. Leading a team of subject matter experts he came up with proposals which would reform all aspects of the local police force. He also has extensive experience of working with the military. His skills at building relationships and trust at senior levels, and on the ground, have been amply demonstrated.
Greg spent significant periods of his Diplomatic career as an official spokesperson for the various Embassies and High Commissions he worked in. He is a skilled public speaker, has done numerous interviews and activities across all media types (TV, radio, print and social) and has therefore gained significant experience of what works and what doesn’t. His friendly and open style means he is more than capable of delivering effective briefings and Q&A sessions across a wide variety of subjects.
Greg has significant experience in crisis management and crisis communications including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and in leading attempts to counteract those seeking to overthrow a legitimate election result. He was a Crisis Gold, Silver and Bronze throughout his career dealing with myriad political and consular crises across various parts of the world.
Greg’s natural open and empathic style stands him in good stead when it comes to delivering training. This can be on topics such as: leadership; crisis management; or media.
